Shinro Ohtake was born in Tokyo in 1955. His multi-layered works in collage, painting and sculpture have had a profound influence on developments in Japanese contemporary art. Recent exhibitions include “New Universe on the Road” at the Fukuoka Art Museum and Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art in 2007, and “Shinro Ohtake Zen-Kei Retrospective: 1955-2006,” at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo, in 2006. A then-complete set of the artist’s 64 mixed-media scrapbooks (1977-2006) was presented at the 8th Gwangju Biennale in 2010, “10,000 Lives,” concurrent to an exhibition of the most recent scrapbook, #65, 2005-10, at Take Ninagawa Gallery, Tokyo.
